Dr. Anthony J. Stanonis is a professional historian with a life-long fascination with the past. He was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his BA at Loyola University New Orleans and his MA and PhD at Vanderbilt University. His interests primarily focus on the cultural history of the New South. His works have looked at the rise of tourism in New Orleans (Creating the Big Easy: New Orleans and the Emergence of Modern Tourism, 1918-1945) as well as in Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Panama City, Biloxi-Gulfport, and Galveston (Faith in Bikinis: Politics and Leisure in the Coastal South since the Civil War). He also edited Dixie Emporium: Tourism, Foodways, and Consumer Culture in the American South.
