Simon Wendt

Simon Wendt is professor of American Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany. His research interests revolve around African American history, American gender history, memory, nationalism, and the history of heroism. He is the author of The Daughters of the American Revolution and Patriotic Memory in the Twentieth Century (2020) and The Spirit and the Shotgun: Armed Resistance and the Struggle for Civil Rights (2007). He has also edited or coedited a number of books, including Warring over Valor: How Race and Gender Shaped American Military Heroism in the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries (2019), Globalizing Lynching History: Vigilantism and Extralegal Punishment from an International Perspective (2011), and Masculinities and the Nation in the Modern World: Between Hegemony and Marginalization (2015).
