2017 - a regular free email newsletter was set up to enable subscribers to receive the latest local and social history information about the Henleaze area of Bristol and also to generate feedback and memories. The last edition for this newsletter was published in April 2022 following the death of Jim Bowerman, Veronica's husband of 55 years.
It was during the 1970s Veronica started visiting properties of historical interest in the area and talking to the residents. The Henleaze Society was looking for items for their newsletter to interest their members so Veronica then produced many articles for them until the late 1980s. A friend then jokingly said, "why don't you write a book?"
It was thanks to the help of many local residents, particularly Ron Lyne and Sylvia Kelly, that the first paperback edition of THE HENLEAZE BOOK was produced in 1991 and the second in 2006.
The HENLEAZE BOOK is full of anecdotes and personal memories rather than dry history - created, as it says itself 'by residents and lovers of Henleaze.' (Bristol Evening Post)
As the lead Admin of the ALHA Avon Local History & Archaeology Facebook Admin team, she currently manages the maintenance of their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AvonLocalHistoryandArchaeology/
Veronica feels that local history is like an onion - there is always another layer! She regularly updates the Henleaze Book Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/henleazebook/
However after many years of living in Henleaze and following the death of her husband of 55 years, Veronica decided to discontinue her local website https://www.henleazebook.com/ in 2022.
