Not everything you read out there about me is current, accurate or

relevant!

I can now confirm, however, that at some significant October moment in the

past I was born, a moment which is not getting any closer...unless time is

circular or an illusion, but for now let's stick with the universal

currency of one apparent superficial reality. This birth occured in the

beautiful Celtic/Roman/Georgian city of Bath (UK) and by roundabout means, via

Virginia (USA), Greece, France, Portugal and a host of British locations I

have somehow found my way back here. Indeed, any moment as I type this,

the Bath rain is set to rattle on the windowpane to my right, another sign

(if we needed one) that Autumn is well underway.

That circular journey included seven years at boarding school ('does not

fulfil his potential'/'stop dreaming Cave'/'See me after class boy!')

during which I developed a love of music from Elizabethan motets to Led

Zeppelin, via John Coltrane, and had a succession of crippling crushes on

girls whom I quite failed to even speak to in my teenage fear. I also

found a natural aptitude for running hill races and so forth and set about

rebelling and discovering the usual sorts of naughtiness in mild sensible

ways.

At later stages I managed against the odds to blag my way back into

education (twice!) to get a degree and a teaching qualification, plus (at

last!) hands-on experience of sex and of the plus and minus points of

subsidised student bar prices. What does one do next? Without really ever

intending it I did actually teach for ten years.

Writing books came from impending financial need when I happened to be

stuck in the French countryside. I never stop feeling lucky! After a

break to do some looking-after of the three children that magically

appeared during two different relationships, (how DOES that happen again?)

I am writing regularly once more and expect some new titles to be ready

before too long.

I manage a wonderful and very happening live-music pub twice a week and

live on a boat. I am sort of taoist by inclination. I've never been

happier than I am now. Do ask whatever else you wish, find more info and also the answers to many questions about my writing and books at www.patrickcave.com ... I won't answer

everything of course.
