Charlie Hailey

Charlie Hailey teaches at the University of Florida where he is a Professor in the School of Architecture. A licensed architect, Hailey is a Fulbright Scholar and Guggenheim Fellow and received a Graham Foundation grant to study Slab City with photographer Donovan Wylie. Hailey lives in Gainesville with his wife and two children.

His books examine camping as a way to make home (Campsite, LSU Press), camps as contemporary spaces (Camps, MIT Press), islands as manufactured landscapes (Spoil Island, Rowman & Littlefield), design/build as DIY education (Design/Build with Jersey Devil, PA Press), and Slab City as the "last free place" (Slab City, a collaboration with Donovan Wylie, MIT Press).
