Claire Mabilat is a British music historian living in France.
Following her PhD in music history at the University of Durham, she had chapters on orientalism published in two books in the series ‘Music in Nineteenth-Century Britain’ (Ashgate, now Routledge) - in 'Europe, Empire, and Spectacle in Nineteenth-Century British Music' ed. Cowgill and Rushton, and in 'Music and Orientalism in the British Empire, 1780s-1940s: Portrayal of the East' ed. Zon.
She has also published the history book 'Orientalism and Representations of Music in the Nineteenth-Century British Popular Arts', in the same series.
She is currently writing historical fiction based on the lives of court musicians and composers in sixteenth-century Europe.
