I am a Principal Lecturer at the University of Plymouth in England where I have been employed since 2000. I act as Programme Manager for a range of Hospitality Programmes including the recently introduced BSc (Hons) Cruise Operations Management and am also the subject co-ordinator for Hospitality.
I am a member of the HCIMA, and hold a range of qualifications including Certificate of Education, MEd (Exon)and a PhD in Education (Exon).
I have had extensive service industry management experience in hotels, in-flight catering, cruise ships, ferry supplies and services and licensed retail. Prior to arriving at the University I was employed as a Head of Centre or Departmental Manager in a College of Further Education. My teaching experience spans both Further and Higher Education and I have taught a range of subjects including wine studies, cruise industry topics, hospitality management, food and beverage management, licensed retail management, research and customer service management.
My research intrerests include: the cruise industry, case studies for the cruise industry, work placement and the cruise industry, situated learning, the circumstantial curriculum: an integrated theory of learning as applied to vocational contexts, strategic management for hospitality, pricing and the internet and service quality management.
