Steve Cohn

STEVE COHN was the longest-serving City Councilmember in Sacramento history and in-house counsel for Sacramento Municipal Utility District, the first electric utility to close a nuclear power plant by popular vote. He was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Yale in 1975 and USD Law School in 1979. He met his wife Catherine in Aix-en-Provence, France, where he earned a diploma and Fulbright Scholarship.

Facing surgery to remove a brain tumor in 2016, Steve began his writing career with CITIZEN COHN, a memoir chronicling his childhood in mid-century Missouri and his adult life in Northern California, where he and his wife enjoyed successful careers and civic life while raising two children. In 2019, Steve published his debut novel THE BLUE SKY REBELLION, the prescient story of ordinary citizens who lead an extraordinary revolution to stop America’s slide into fascism. In 2019, Steve co-founded Sacramento Advocates for Rail and Transit (SMART), a non-profit coalition of community leaders.

In 2024, Steve was elected as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
