David B. Gowler

Dr. Gowler is Pierce Distinguished Chair of Religion, Oxford College of Emory University, and Senior Faculty Fellow, the Center for Ethics, Emory University.

Dr. Gowler is the author of Howard Thurman and the Quest for Community: From Prodigals to Compassionate Samaritans; What Are They Saying About the Parables? (2nd ed 2021); The Parables after Jesus: Their Imaginative Receptions across Two Millennia (2020, 2017); James Through the Centuries; What Are They Saying About the Historical Jesus?; Host, Guest, Enemy and Friend: Portraits of the Pharisees in Luke and Acts (2008, 1991). His books have been translated into French, Korean, and Japanese. He has also published dozens of articles, book chapters, and book reviews, is the editor or coeditor of over 30 books, and served as coeditor of Emory Studies in Early Christianity since 1991.
