Buddy Sullivan

Buddy Sullivan is a noted author and lecturer specialising in Georgia state history and coastal Georgia history. He has published 30 books and monographs. His most popular books are "Sapelo: People and Place on a Georgia Sea Island" "Early Days on the Georgia Tidewater, A New Revised Edition," and "Georgia: A State History, 1733-2000". Sullivan published nine new titles in 2019-2020, including "Notes from Low Country Georgia: History, Ecology & Perspective," "Darien, Georgia: A History of the Town & Its Environs," "Life & Labor on Butler's Island; Rice Cultivation in the Altamaha River Delta," "Thomas Spalding, Antebellum Planter of Sapelo," "Postbellum Sapelo Island: The Reconstruction Journal of Archibald Carlisle McKinley," and "Environmental Influences on Life and Labor in McIntosh County, Georgia: Case Studies in Ecology as History." His other books include "From Beautiful Zion to Red Bird Creek: A History of Bryan County, Georgia," "A Low Country Diary: Bessie Mary Lewis and McIntosh County, Georgia," "The Darien Journal of John Girardeau Legare, Ricegrower," and "All Under Bank: Roswell King and Plantation Management in Tidewater Georgia, 1819-1854." Two new titles will be forthcoming in 2020: "Atlas of McIntosh County History: A Survey Through Maps and a Personal Commentary," and the author's reminiscences of his life, family and associations in coastal and southeast Georgia, "Child-Life on the Tidewater, A Memoir of Coastal Georgia." Buddy Sullivan is a native of McIntosh County, Georgia, and has had a lifelong interest in the culture and history of the coast which he traces back to his ancestral roots in Charleston, SC and south Georgia. He was manager of the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve from 1993 to 2013 following a 15-year career in newspaper journalism as a sports writer and weekly newspaper editor. He currently is a historical consultant living on his ancestral land overlooking the tidal salt marshes and waterways of McIntosh County.
