Bill Stackpole

William “Bill” Stackpole, born in Gorham, Maine, 1950, grew up in Connecticut and served in the US Army from 1968 to 1973 after which he attended Avionic Electronics school. He became interested in computer technology when microprocessors were introduced into test equipment he was repairing and calibrating. He worked for the Department of Defense as a computer repair technician, network engineer, and technology manager for 12 years before entering the consulting business in 1990 where he quick began focusing on computer security. Bill holds a BS degree in Management Information Systems, as well as, a CISSP certification with an Architecture Professional endorsement from (ISC)2. Bill has served in a number of different capacities at (ISC)2 including chairman of the CISSP Test Development Committee and membership in the Common Body of Knowledge committees for the CISSP and ISSAP certifications. In addition to the two book he has co-authored, Bill has also been a regular contributor to the Handbook on Information Security Management by Tipton and Krause.

Over the pass 15 years Bill has served in a number of different capacities including his current position as Information Security Architect for World Vision and former positions as Principle Security Architect for Microsoft Online Services, Lead Security Architect for Microsoft Consulting Services, Managing Consultant at the Microsoft Security Center of Excellence and Principle Security Consultant at Predictive System. He is known for his keen insights into information security issues and his ability to put complex concepts into clear and understandable terms.
