Douglas Atwill

Atwill was born into a longstanding California family of ministers, orange orchardists and land developers. but he is the first writer. After Pasadena public schools, university and some European study, he moved to Santa Fe to paint full time. His paintings, mostly New Mexico landscapes and his own gardens, can been seen at dougatwillstudio.com. A few years ago, he started to write about the artist's life, using his insider's experiences seasoned with a good sprinkling of fiction. His fourth book is Creep Around the Corner, a spy novel from Sunstone Press.

In production at Sunstone are two new books, including Brushes with Obsession, a collection of stories. This includes the short story, Husband Memory Pickles, which was on the awards list for The New Yorker magazine competition. Douglas Atwill Paintings is an 8-1/2 by 8-1/2 compendium of photos and comments about 80 or so of his recent paintings. Atwill is now editing the final version of Dinner in the Labyrinth, a novel concerned with the vagaries of enduring love in an extended Santa Fe family of painters and writers.
