Fern L. Johnson

A native of Minnesota, Fern L. Johnson has lived in Massachusetts for many years. She is currently Senior Research Scholar and Professor Emerita of English at Clark University (Worcester, Massachusetts). Following a long career in university teaching and research, she focuses now on improving interracial understanding and addressing food insecurity. Dr. Johnson is the author of SPEAKING CULTURALLY: LANGUAGE DIVERSITY IN THE UNITED STATES and IMAGING IN ADVERTISING: VERBAL AND VISUAL CODES OF COMMERCE, plus many journal articles and book chapters. She co-authored THE INTERRACIAL ADOPTION OPTION: CREATING A FAMILY ACROSS RACE with Marlene Fine. Her newest book, also with Marlene Fine, is LET'S TALK RACE: A GUIDE FOR WHITE PEOPLE (New Society Publishers, 2021). To get away from the world of words, she enjoys stained glass projects.
