Lela Lee

Lela Lee is a cartoonist, writer, and actress. In college, she made an animated short called "Angry Little Asian Girl" but kept it hidden in a drawer. Years later, Lela made 4 more episodes for her first screening, which garnered glowing reviews from the LA Times and LA Weekly. The positive reaction gave Lela the idea to make t-shirts. She took to selling shirts out of the trunk of her car, allowing her to meet women who were also angry and wanted to read her comics that did not yet exist. This prompted Lela to become a self-taught cartoonist. A website was launched in 1998 as a self-publishing platform and online shop. In 2000, Lela expanded "Angry Little Asian Girl" to the umbrella name "Angry Little Girls." The first "Angry Little Girls" book was published in April 2005 and two months later, it had gone into its fourth printing. Six more books were published and translated into Korean, French, and German, and the products were sold in malls all over the US and abroad.
