Tom McGowan

Thomas F. McGowan was born in the Bronx and made his home in Atlanta. A chemical engineer by trade and graduate of Georgia Tech and Manhattan College, he has had a long and rewarding career in high temperature processes, energy, and environmental issues. He can fix anything but a rainy day. He is well published in the technical matters, and is chief editor for Biomass and Alternate Fuel Systems: An Engineering and Economic Guide (Wiley, 2009). When not engineering, he explores his artistic side in wood, steel and stone art, and writes -- and tells -- nonfiction stories about his life and times growing up in the Bronx and later years in Atlanta. Published nonfiction work includes a short story in Charity (2000, Red Rock Press, NY) and many more in Back in the Bronx Magazine and neighborhood newspapers. Tom can be reached via email at tmtsassociates1000(at)mindspring.com.

His storytelling at Carapace gatherings at Manuel's and Venkman's in Atlanta have been recorded by NPR and PBS. PBS videos can be seen at:
