Ursula Huws

Ursula Huws is a feminist political economist and Director of Analytica Social and Economic Research in the UK. She retired from academic employment in February, 2021. Before that, she was Professor of Labour and Globalisation at the University of Hertfordshire (2011-2020), Professor of International Labour Studies at London Metropolitan University (from 2005), Associate Fellow at the Institute for Employment Studies (from 1996) and Senior Lecturer at the University of North London (from 1990).

Crediting with coining the terms ‘teleworking’ and ‘cybertariat’, she has been investigating the economic and social impacts of technological change, the restructuring of employment and the changing global division of labour since the 1970s and carried out extensive research on labour in the platform economy across Europe from 2015 to 2021.

She edits the peer-reviewed journal Work Organisation, Labour and Globalisation, which she founded in 2006.

Her work has appeared in translation in many languages.
