Bert Schwitters

Bert Schwitters was born in Holland in 1945. In 1968, he started his journalistic

career at Holland’s largest TV Weekly magazine. Soon after, he found himself

producing and directing documentary programs for Dutch Television. Since

1980, Schwitters has been focusing his attention particularly on health and

nutrition and has been playing an active role in the promotion and free availability

of dietary supplements. As an investigative journalist and businessman, he

has met and come to know many innovators in the fields of medicine, health,

and nutrition. Since the late 1970s, he has been an independent supporter of

alternative medicine and of the orthomolecular approach to health.

The author of several non-fiction books, he has dealt with subjects such as

Interpol, psychiatry, and human health. In 1993, in cooperation with Dr. Jack

Masquelier, Schwitters wrote OPC in Practice. The sequel to this book, OPCs,

Dr. Masquelier’s Mark on Health, was published in 2004.

In 1994, his first collection of poetry, Where I Live (“Waar ik woon”), was

published in Holland. A second collection called Without Naming (“Zonder je

naam”) was published in 2003.

In 2012, in his book Health Claims Censored, Schwitters exposed the European

Health Claims Regulation as an imbroglio of conflicting, disproportionate and

inappropriate concepts aimed to permanently silence all but a few food business

operators in the field of nutrition and health. Although this Regulation leaves

the Precautionary Principle unmentioned, Schwitters explains how it is the

unprecedented and totally unwarranted application of that principle in the field

of commercial speech that underlies the unconditional prohibition and censoring

of health claims on food products.

In September 2014, at the Sacred Fire of Liberty event that took place in Cambridge,

Maryland (US) on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the American lawfirm

Emord & Associates, Schwitters received the "Freedom of Informed Choice

Award" for his continuing efforts to break down government barriers that deny

consumers access to promising therapies and health information.
