Es wendet sich in erster Linie an Studenten der unteren Semester aller Fachrichtungen, deren Studienpläne keine Zeit für die zweisemestrige Standardvorlesung lassen, die aber dennoch ein möglichst umfassend anwendbares Fundament für den vielfältigen Gebrauch der linearen Algebra benötigen. So beschränkt es sich nicht etwa auf die Vermittlung von Resultaten und Rechenregeln, sondern erläutert auch die entsprechende mathematische Denk- und Arbeitsweise. Daher ist der Text auch als Grundlage der ersten Hälfte einer zweisemestrigen Veranstaltung geeignet, die sich zunächst an einen breiteren Hörerkreis wenden kann, um dann im zweiten Semester mit Erweiterungen und Vertiefungen für einen eventuell engeren Hörerkreis fortzufahren.
