The writing world calls her Epstein LaRue, but reality calls her "Kay." No matter what you know her by, she is a lady of many talents. She has been a nurse since 1992, and has worked on medical, surgical, emergency, telemetry, rehabilitation, and psychiatric units.
Epstein started her writing career with the book, “Love At First Type.” This fictional novel is about how she and her husband met online. In an attempt to bring her love of romance and medicine together, in January 2003 her second book “Crazy Thoughts of Passion was released.”
In January 2005 her third and most successful book, “Highway Hypodermics: Your Road Map To Travel Nursing” was published. In September of 2005, this book was recognized by USA Book News as one of the top finalist for professional book of the year.
In January 2007, “Highway Hypodermics: Travel Nursing 2007” was released. The chapters of the first edition were rewritten and a lot more information was added. This was the first book to reach a Number One ranking on Amazon in the Nursing Trend, Issues, and Roles category.
In January 2009. "Highway Hypodermics: On The Road Again" was released. Not only was it a number one book on Amazon, but it also won the medical reference category in the 2010 USA Book News awards, in which 2 other travel nursing books were entered.
In January 2012, "Highway Hypodermics: Travel Nursing 2012" was released. In the first month, it sky rocketed to the top 25 on Amazon's Nursing Trends, Issues, and Roles. It is also the first edition to be published in a Kindle version.
To correlate with the Travelers Conference, the next edition, “Highway Hypodermics: Travel Nursing 2015” was released in September of 2014. This book crossed over to the Nursing Medical Reference category and hangs out on the Top 100 with works by Mosby, Lippincott, the American Heart Association, and Tabers.
In "Highway Hypodermics: Travel Nursing 2017," all of the chapters have been updated, along with new nurse stories, and new travel company profiles. Contributing Author, Joseph C. Smith, EA, updated his travel tax chapter, and Contributing Author, Aaron Highfill, RN, writes on how to travel to foreign countries.
Star Publish, LLC, has been the independent publisher for all the Highway Hypodermics series of books.
Currently Epstein spends her summers in Idaho working in the home office and then travels to the southern states to spend the winter. Joe, Epstein, and Aaron can all be found at the Travelers Conference each fall.
