Hello, and welcome to my Author page. I wish there was a way to make this conversation a bit less one-sided! I want to explain a bit about what I write, and why. You'll see most of my books are non-fiction. I have a bit of a compulsion about learning new things, and for me, the best way to learn is to ask questions, go places, and use the act of writing to bring about a new understanding. Even my one work of fiction followed this same process. I had so many experiences through previous book research that I couldn't leave them alone. I had to scoop them all up together and put them in that episodic novel, called Along the Sylvan Trail.

After five years of living, and writing, and writing and living, I've competed my latest book. Searching for Here: Mapping an Unfenced Life, tells both a personal story and a public one. I see this memoir as telling two interwoven stories. First, the daily almanac thread spans the year between Winter solstice 2019 and Winter solstice 2020. It concerns daily events through the lens of life in a small rural town, coping with a pandemic and fraught U.S. politics. Second, the overarching thread takes a long view of my sixty-plus years, relationships, cross-country moves, and the result of living child-free.

I hope you'll give the book a read, and that it helps you see something in the pattern of your own life you hadn't thought of before.
