Born in Bristol in 1955 Chris has lived in the city that he loves/hates in equal measures, his whole life. He has been married to his wife Carole for over 40 years and they have two children and three grandchildren. He is now retired after a lifetime in the print industry, starting as an apprenticed hot metal compositor in 1972.
He is as passionate about ska, reggae, soul, funk and punk as he is about his football club, Bristol Rovers although he fell out of love with the modern game when the Premier League was formed. He loves holidays in Greece and weekend breaks in the UK. He drinks red wine, real ale and rum, but not all at the same time.
Chicken City is his second novel and is a follow-up to Guilty Tiger. The chief protagonist of both books is Steve Allen, one-time hard man and football hooligan who is grappling with the modern world and his own inner demons and phobias.
He's had two books published previously, the highly acclaimed cult-classic autobiography, Bovver and its subsequent rerelease Booted and Suited, which included new copy and photographs from his life growing up in Bristol in the 1970s.
Booted and Suited gained the following reviews:
‘Social history with steel toe caps’ – John King, Football factory.
‘A jaw-dropping account of the 70s’ – Bristol Evening Post.
‘An absolute must for anyone remotely interested in football, fashion or music. Brilliant!’ – Sunday People.
