Robert Thomson

Robert Thomson was born in Toronto, Canada. His first book, "Secret Things," a collection of short, gay-themed stories, was published in 1993. A second edition was published the following year. At this time, Robert began working as a journalist and editor for several local magazines, eventually taking the role of Managing Editor at Canada's only national gay glossy magazine, FAB National.

In 1999 "Need," Robert's second book of short gay fiction was to have been published, but the U.S. distributor's bankruptcy occurred the week the entire print run arrived at their warehouse. This sealed that book's fate, along with countless others. Since then, Robert worked as a DJ, VJ, video editor, lyricist, publicist.

Between 2009 and 2012, Robert began writing again, completing nine feature-length screenplays. In late 2013, he decided to adapt one of his screenplays into a novel. This lead him to re-examine his old writing. Before completing the novel, he decided to revisit and republish all his previously published work.

His company HowNow Media released "Secret Things" in an expanded ebook format July 28, 2014. This was followed by "Now... Where Was I?" in October. NWWI? is a free-for-a-limited-time sampler of all of Robert's work due out in the next two years. "Need" was published in an expanded ebook format on December 10, 2014. In May of 2015, HowNow Media will release a book of all new short stories by Robert, "Tiny Grievances." There will also be two novellas published in August and October: "The Co-Dependent Cabaret" and "Broken, Down." His first novel, "Rehab," (based on his original screenplay) will be published at the end of 2015 or early 2016.

In addition to his literary work, Robert has written and directed several short films, including "Last Visit" (Śltima visita), which was nominated for Best LGBT Short at the 2011 Barcelona Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. "Last Visit" is based on Robert' short story "If" from the book "Need." Robert will be releasing a new short film in the early months of 2014. Watch for "Surfaces" coming soon.
