James Peyton is an award-winning author whose internationally flavored thrillers are forged from a lifetime of travel to the world’s most volatile and compelling crossroads, where danger, corruption, and human ambition converge.

From an early age, Peyton was drawn to suspense narratives set in exotic, politically charged locales. In his twenties, he embarked on a month-long camping expedition across the former Soviet Union and later traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. His professional journeys took him to Japan, Guam, Hawaii, and Beijing, where he helped establish a Mexican restaurant.

Mexico, however, became his deepest wellspring of inspiration. After more than four decades of travel and research in the country, Peyton contributed the food chapters to three Lonely Planet guidebooks and authored five acclaimed books on Mexican cuisine and culture. His intimate knowledge of the nation’s people, politics, history, and criminal underworld forms the foundation of his award-winning Artemas Salcido thriller series and other suspense novels set on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border and across the globe.
