Steven E. O'Hara

STEVEN O'HARA, Emeritus Professor of Architectural Engineering and Licensed Engineer

Professor O'Hara received his Master of Architectural Engineering from Oklahoma State University, and was a member of the teaching faculty at the School of Architecture 1988-2018. His primary areas of interest include the design and analysis of masonry, steel and timber structures, with special interest in classical numerical structural analysis and the design of concrete structures. Professor O'Hara iwas one of four faculty members in the Architectural Engineering program at OSU, and as sch was teaching courses in the AE program at all levels; he enjoyed his close mentoring relationship with the students in the AE program at OSU, as he also performs the role of their academic advisor. Outside the OSU classroom, Professor O'Hara was an Affiliate Professor of Civil Engineering and Architecture in "Project Lead the Way", a nationwide program for high school students. He trained the high school teachers responsible for introducing engineering principles into the secondary curriculum, though project based learning, and has authored the workbook for the curriculum.

As a faculty member, Professor O’Hara had received numerous awards; in 2018 he was awarded the Outstanding Advisor award in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT), in 2017 he received a Regents Teaching Award for Oklahoma State University (OSU), in 2016 he was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Service award in CEAT and was part of the First Place team winning the Presidents Cup for Creative Interdisiplinarity at OSU, in 2013 he was elected to the first class of Faculty Teaching Fellows at OSU, elevated to Chapter Honor Member by Chi Epsilon and was part of the Second place team for the Presidents Cup at OSU, in 2001 he was the honored recipient of the first Melvin R. Lohmann Professorship in CEAT.
