Kipchak Johnson

In the 1970s and 1980s I worked with the legendary Young Artists Illustrators’ Agency based In Camden, London, producing fantasy paperback covers for writers such as: Philip K. Dick, Robert Heinlein, Angela Carter, H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Captain W.E. Johns and more.

Having done science fantasy to glorious death, I travelled for Blackwell’s Library Services of Oxford visiting countries in the Middle and Far East and Africa, an experience which brightened my ‘Guides for Travellers’ series later on. An excellent company still.

More recently I have branched out into writing for a more serious readership, in particular my book The Real Ancient Mariner which was well received by the Guardian, the New Yorker, the Telegraph, the Spectator and other major news outlets. Nowadays I divide my time between writing and helping other writers through YouCaxton.co.uk Publishing Services, a company which I set up with a printer/designer friend. We help writers steer their way through the rocky, dangerous waters of editing, design and self-publishing. I live in rural Shropshire, UK, where I and my neighbours fight a losing battle against the encroaching sheep. I also contribute articles to the Guardian Online.
