Judith McDaniel

I have always been an activist who used my teaching and writing to further my search for justice. My books are based on my activism. Sanctuary: A Journey is an account of my work in the Sanctuary Movement to aid Central American refugees during the 1980s. It contains the account of being captured by the Contras in Nicaragua.

This activism has included the feminist, lesbian and gay movement since the 1970s. With Maureen Brady, I co-founded Spinsters Ink, a lesbian/feminist press in 1978. During that active time in the Women-in-Print movement, I worked with Audre Lorde, Barbara Deming, Adrienne Rich, Barbara Smith, Elly Bulkin, Minnie Bruce Pratt and many other writers, publishers and activists.

I am currently working on a memoir: The Distance Traveled. My writing can be found in political and literary journals as well as in the books offered here.
