In 2010 my wife JoAnn and I had pretty much finished restoring the 1750s home we bought in 1987 (actually the work almost finished us :-). I had just retired from a 35-year career as a consultant to multinational corporations in Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. I was looking for new excitement, but of a tamer nature than when I was younger (running the bulls in Pamplona … escaping from thugs in Hungary right after the Russians left… avoiding getting arrested by the Carabinieri in Florence… surviving a gun fight in Mexico City…).

My business book, The Tao of Sales, published in 1997, had attracted a loyal reading audience, and I knew I had a lot of stories to share. So I started writing and publishing full time.

My first novel, Blood Brothers: Courage and Treachery on the Shores of Tripoli came out in 2012 (Bronze Medal, Military Wroters Association of America). I followed that in 2015 with a biography of America’s most successful and highly revered high school soccer coach, The Life and Times of Miller Bugliari, The sequel to Blood Brothers, titled The Most Bold and Daring Act of the Age, (shortlisted for Publisher's Weekly Book Life Prize) was published in 2017. My third novel, a World War II spy stoty, Doppelgänger, was published in 2018.

In an important way, my career has come full circle. I taught high school English before starting my consulting work (Bread Loaf School of English M.A., Princeton Ph.D. in Renaissance Literature). It’s been a joy returning to the world of authors and readers.
