Gretchen Bauer

Gretchen Bauer is professor in the department of political science and international relations at the University of Delaware, where she teaches African politics and gender and politics. Her current research focuses on women's political leadership in Africa. She has been a visiting researcher at the Institute for Public Policy Research in Windhoek, Namibia in 2002 and at the University of Botswana in Gaborone in 2009. In 2016 she was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Ghana in Accra. She has been a Senior Fellow at the Merian Institute for Advanced Studies in Africa (MIASA) at the University of Ghana in 2019 and 2023. She directed the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Mandela Washington Fellowship at the University of Delaware from 2014-2018. From 2022-2025, she serves in the leadership of the African Studies Association (USA).
