Don Roberts

Don Roberts is a broadcast journalist, with more than 30 experience in television and radio in Baltimore, Washington and Hampton Roads, Virginia.

He anchors 5 and 1/2 hours of news a day, first as co-host of the number-1 rated morning newscast in southeastern Virginia, "WAVY News 10 Today" and WAVY News 10 Midday.

Don joined WAVY-TV in 1989. Before that, he was the news and production director at radio station W-R-A-P AM, in Portsmouth.

Don wrote “Rap To Live By” in 1993. It's a collection of 50 positive poetry and rap songs for kids of all ages. Themes range from "Little Red RIDING *IN THE 'HOOD," to the A-B-C'S of BLACK HISTORY. There's also a detailed look at the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered in poetic verse. Although Don wrote RAP TO LIVE more than 20 years ago, the book's themes have proven timeless.

His second book, “Hey Daddy, Read This,” was published by I-Universe in 2004. It's all about dads, fathers, and the difference between the two. Don writes of how his father, Nathaniel, earned the right to be called "dad." But Don also included very personal "letters" from children of all ages- TO THEIR FATHERS.

Don is active in his church and the southeastern Virginia community of Hampton Roads. He has served on the boards of several non-profit, civic and religious organizations.

Don is also a frequent speaker, reader and just-plain visitor at local schools, having made 150 such "visits" in one year.

Don is a competitive chess and softball player; will do 50 push-ups at the drop of a dime (BUT YOU MUST SHOW HIM THE "DIME," FIRST And, if you drop a FEW DOLLARS MORE, Don may even perform some of the 50 RAPS in his book, with audience-participation, of course.

Don is a graduate of Towson University, Baltimore; and has received hundreds of awards in his 30 plus year career, including an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters for Norfolk Theological College and Seminary in 2009.

Originally from Baltimore, Don and his family now reside in Newport News.

Don wakes up at 2-20 a-m everyday, rain or shine, weekday or weekend, determined to do at least one thing- to prove that ONE MAN- CAN make a difference.
