John Pape

John Pape (b. 1956) was born in New Braunfels, Texas and raised in a traditional rural German-American home. As an adult, he worked as a law enforcement officer in such diverse locations as Lake Charles, LA, South Texas, and the mountains of northern New Mexico.

Telling a crime story, especially when murder is involved, comes naturally to Pape. As a highly-decorated police officer, homicide investigator, and chief of police, Pape blends his law enforcement background with a love for storytelling in a colorful, realistic, and often-irreverent writing style.

The result is a series of books that capture the gritty realism of the streets, the salty dark humor of the police world, and the nuances of an investigation that only someone who has been there can convey.

In addition to his police novels, Pape wrote about his childhood in the anthology "Hill Country Chronicles," as well as his love for exploring the Windy City in "Walking Chicago."
