John E. Keegan

John E Keegan is the author of four published novels:

Clearwater Summer, which the New York Public Library declared a “Best Book” and the Library Journal said is “Packing the punch of Stephen King’s novella, The Body [which became the movie, Stand By Me], a classic small-town life disrupted by violent death, this carefully crafted novel is, in its turn, highly recommended.”

Piper, which Publisher’s Weekly praised, “This absorbing coming-of-age chronicle culminates in a scandal, a tragedy and the revelation of a secret.”

A Good Divorce, of which Publisher’s Weekly said, “Keegan resists turning his sociologically burdened characters into stereotypes, and explores how family members, even kids, grope for ideological rationales to makes sense of the inchoate dynamics of daily life. This emotionally rich and socially aware novel touchingly evokes a time when the personal became awkwardly political.”

Orphaned, in which Dean Hostler has the bright idea to return to his wife Lorraine's good graces by winning the bid for a thoroughbred filly for his son Ricky's birthday and triggering his emancipation from the Attention Deficit Disorder that has shadowed his son's life. And in the process, losing the family's Nashua trailer home and maybe his marriage.

Born in Spokane, Washington and now living in Seattle, John is a graduate of Gonzaga University, where he studied in Florence, Italy for his junior year, and has a law degree from Harvard Law School. In his real life, he has practiced law as a deputy prosecuting attorney in King County and as a partner in several law firms, his longest stint being with the firm of Davis Wright Tremaine in Seattle.

John is a member and supporter of the Seattle Rep Theater (formerly Chair of the Board), Author’s Guild, Dramatists Guild, Doctors without Borders, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU, NPR, Black Lives Matter, Project Pilgrimage, Common Purpose, NAACP, NAAM, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, ACT and Williams Project.
