Carl E. Olson is the editor of Catholic World Report (www.CatholicWorldReport.com) and Ignatius Insight (www.ignatiusinsight.com), both operated by Ignatius Press (www.ignatius.com).
He is the author of Will Catholics Be “Left Behind”? and Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?, co-author of The Da Vinci Hoax, and co-editor/contributor to Called To Be Children of God. He has written two Study Guides for video series produced by Bishop Robert Barron and is the author of hundreds of articles on theology, Scripture, apologetics, culture, and current events for a variety of print and online publications.
Carl holds an Associate Degree from Briercrest Bible College (1991) and a Masters in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas (2000).
Since 2012, Carl has written a regular column on apologetics for The Catholic Answer magazine, published by Our Sunday Visitor. He has written articles for Crisis, Chronicles, The Catholic Faith, Catholic Parent, CRUX, Envoy, This Rock, First Things, Human Events, Gilbert!, Touchstone, Canticle, Saint Austin Review, New Covenant, The Catalyst, Lay Witness, National Review Online, Progarchy.com, CatholicExchange.com, and Catholic.org. Carl has been a regular contributor to This Rock magazine (now The Catholic Answers Magazine). From 2006 to 2015 he wrote the weekly “Opening the Word” Scripture column for Our Sunday Visitor newspaper.
Carl has been a guest on FOX-TV, CNN, MSNBC, Court TV, CNBC, CBN News, BBC radio, “Catholic Answers Live!,” “Kresta in the Afternoon,” “Living His Life Abundantly,” “The Catholic Connection,” “Morning Air,” “Searching the Word,” and EWTN’s “The Journey Home,” “The Abundant Life,” “EWTN Live,” “Threshold of Hope,” and numerous local and regional radio and television programs. He has also spoken at conferences, including the Orientale Lumen Conference, Defending the Faith Conference, Ignited by Truth Conference, and the Fullness of Truth Conference.
Since 2000, Carl has led a weekly Bible study at Nativity of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church (Springfield, Oregon; nativityukr.org), and since 2013 has taught a course in ecclesiology in the lay ministry formation program of the Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon.
Carl and Heather married in 1994 and have three children. In his spare time, Carl enjoys recreation with his family, collecting music and books, reading, camping, painting, tennis, cooking, and scouring used bookstores for hidden treasures.
