John Argue

Since 1985, John Argue has been teaching movement and voice for people with Parkinson's disease. His approach reflects his extensive training in yoga, tai chi, dance, and drama. He has traveled to more than fifty cities across the US to speak at Parkinson's conferences. His book, Parkinson's Disease & the Art of Moving, has been translated into Italian, Hindi, Russian, Swedish, and Hebrew. He has published two DVDs for people with Parkinson's: the "Video Companion to Parkinson's Disease & the Art of Moving," and for families and caregivers, "Parkinson's Disease & Activities of Daily Living."

John Argue grew up in a Catholic orphanage, St. Patrick's Indian Mission, in Anadarko, Oklahoma. After serving in the US Navy during the Korean War, he attended UC Berkeley on the GI Bill. He became an actor, director, and theater arts teacher living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. He taught drama, movement, and voice at the University of California at Berkeley, San Francisco State University, and the American Conservatory Theater. In the 1970's he founded his own theater studio, where he wrote and produced several plays and pioneered advanced techniques for actor training. He also worked as a drama therapist with institutionalized children and adults.

He continues to teach Parkinson's classes and to train teachers at the Jewish Community Center East Bay in Berkeley, California.
