Chip Berlet

Chip Berlet, an investigative journalist and independent scholar, edited the 2020 book Trumping Democracy: From Reagan to the Alt-Right (Routledge). Berlet, with Matthew N. Lyons, coauthored the book Right-Wing Populism in America: Too Close for Comfort (Guilford 2000) which predicted the successful Presidential bid of a right-wing Populist candidate. Donald Trump fit the prediction.

Other works by Berlet have appeared in scholarly journals including Totalitarian Movements and Political Religions, Contemporary Sociology, American Anthropologist, and Research in Political Sociology, among others.

Berlet's byline has appeared in The New York Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Sun-Times, Des Moines Register, Columbia Journalism Review, Amnesty Now, Mother Jones, The Nation, The Progressive, Tikkun, Greenpeace Magazine, and In These Times.

From 1981-2011 Berlet was senior analyst at Political Research Associates, a progressive think-tank in Massachusetts.
