William L. Fox is president emeritus of St. Lawrence University in northern New York where he served for twelve years, preceded by six years as president of Culver-Stockton College in Missouri. Fox was born, raised, and educated in metropolitan Washington, DC, where the family ties trace four generations. He took his A.B. from St. Lawrence; received a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard University; and a Ph.D. in American religious history from George Washington University.
With Envoy to the Archives: Ruth Anna Fisher and Hidden Transatlantic History, Fox has published five books. These include a biography of Harvard theologian Willard L. Sperry, the award-winning Valley of the Craftsmen and Lodge of the Double-Headed Eagle: Two Centuries of Scottish Rite Freemasonry. Also, a selection of his essays written during his years at St. Lawrence was curated and published as Laurentian Seasons.
Now living in Vermont with his wife Lynn Fox, near their daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons, he remains an avid fan of college ice hockey and the Boston Red Sox.
