As an artist, James often works in the genre known as Concrete Poetry, but frequently pushes past the normal boundaries of that movement with his extreme use of media, materials, and variation of style. His work typically focuses on cultural and historical commentary and he sees literature as a natural part of the artistic spectrum. As an author, James has written a number of books and articles- ranging from college textbooks on design and visual media to humorous articles that encompass nearly anything in the human experience – except baseball.
