I was born In Edinburgh, Scotland and have lived there all my life. I left school at 16 and joined the Civil Service working for the Department of Agriculture as a Clerical Assistant. After 44 years I retired from my role as Director of Corporate Communications at the Scottish Land Registry. Most of my career was spent working for the Scottish Government in their Communications Directorate, most notably as Head of Marketing. I am married with four children and have four grandsons. Family comes first but after that I am an ardent Celtic football fan, believe that God is the most important person we ever get to know and that music, both making it and listening to it, is a wonderous gift from above. My favourite books are Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series. I love Terry Pratchett, Bill Bryson and Antony Beevor. If I was ever castaway on a Desert Island, apart from the Bible, I would take 'Finding Your Hidden Treasure' by Benignus O'Rourke, surely one of the greatest books ever published and one not to be missed. I have a small music studio and when I am not making music I am writing. That is of course when I am not on Granddad duty.
