Nancy Mercado

Nancy Mercado’s distinguished career has been recognized with the New Generation Beat Poet Laureate Lifetime Award (New York, USA), and the prestigious American Book Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Before Columbus Foundation. She was named one of The Frederick Douglass 200 by the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives and the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University, honoring 200 living individuals whose work embodies the legacy of Frederick Douglass. For eleven years, Mercado was an editor of the underground literary journal Long Shot, also serving as its Editor-in-Chief. She is the Guest Editor of Phati’tude Literary Magazine’s What’s in a Nombre. She authored It Concerns the Madness (Long Shot Productions, Las Tres Hermanas (Casita Maria), and served as editor of if the world were mine (New Jersey Performing Arts Center Arts Education), a young adult anthology. She also edited the first Nuyorican Women Writers Anthology, a two-volume online collection.
