Paul Streitz

Paul Streitz was born in upstate New York, whose native residents are unaffectionately called "apple knockers." He graduated from Mohawk High School, located not unexpectedly in Mohawk, New York, a town named after a haircut. With minimal education but high SAT scores, a Regents Scholarship and a dad and uncle who went there, he went to Hamilton College, where he was an almost perfect C student, learning nothing, but noting that prep school guys wore garters to keep their socks from flopping on their Bass Weejuns.

He entered the U.S Army as his grandfather and father had done. His father was a pilot in WWII China and his grandfather a Rough Rider with Teddy Roosevelt in Cuba. Genetics rule. He served with the 82nd Airborne as a platoon leader near Hue and then as an advisor with the Vietnamese in the Mekong Delta. After a brief scuffle with the Viet Cong, he was awarded a bong, a Bronze Star with V. He then went home.

The University of Chicago Business School turned him into a Libertarian, which he later rejected with his book America First. He worked a number of big time ad agencies in NYC, JWT, DDB, Grey, Y&R, BBDO, always with his musicals in his hip pocket. OH, JOHNNY and then Madison Avenue, the subliminal musical, which was his swan song to the ad biz. He then had a sinecure with the Metropolitan Transportation Agency doing market research on buses, trains and subways. Retiring gracefully after 18 years.

He ran twice for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate on a platform of ending Free Trade and reducing immigration (which he was scoffed at as it was considered a non-issue). The photo with the hat was taken while he was a Minuteman on the Mexican border in 2005. Ironically, his grandfather had served with the cavalry in 1905 in the same location protecting the AZ residents from Poncho Villa and other rascals.
