Tom Buggy

Tom Buggy is a golf historian with a particular interest in golf in New York State. In addition to the books in my bibliography, I have authored "Dinsmore Golf Course - A Brief History," which traces the course's evolution from a 19th century private 9-hole course for aristocratic Hudson Valley families to today's 18-hole public course operated by the Taconic State Park Commission. In addition, I have authored an article about the first six golf professionals at Dutchess Golf and Country Club in Poughkeepsie, New York (founded 1897) that was published in Through the Green, the magazine of the British Golf Collectors Society. These two non-ISBN publications are available directly from me. If you are interested in them, contact me via an email to tbuggy@aol.com.

I am a graduate of Villanova University and live with my wife Jackie in Hyde Park, New York. Both Jackie and I play golf not as well as we used to in earlier years. I once had a handicap of 3 after a magical under-par weekend but more typically played to a 5 or 6 course handicap. My current handicap index of 12.6 reflects advancing age and deteriorated skills.

Of special current interest is a research project that is trying to determine whether or not The Edgewood Club of Tivoli is the oldest continually operated golf club in the United States. This club was founded in 1883 primarily as a tennis club and moved to its present location in 1884. A definitive record of when the golf course started has not yet been found. If you have any related knowledge, or even faint clues, please contact me.
