He received his graduate degree at the University of Michigan with additional archaeological studies and archaeological digging through Hebrew Union College, Hebrew University, and Tel Aviv University.

Joel and Neal's pictures have been used in more than one hundred scholarly works published by various publishing companies such as Zondervan, Eerdmans, and other publishing companies overseas. Neal has written in part or the whole more than 9 books relating to Middle Eastern Archaeology and Bible textbooks on the Old and New Testaments.

He has a Kindle books series: entitled Beyond Indiana Jones: Getting at the Facts (Artifacts) Buried in the Biblical Story (currently Volumes 1-3). More Kindle books in this series are planned. Now he has published 5 paperback volumes entitled: Getting High in Peru, and 4 paperback volumes entitled: Beyond Indiana Jones (BIJ)--all examining archaeological sites. An additional BIJ volume is in a Kindle format. All 9 paperbacks take you to different locations of interest either in Peru or the Middle East. Neal also has earlier books on the Middle East and Archaeology.

Indiana Jones is a fictional character, but Hiram Bingham was authentic and had adventures in Peru as did Neal. In the Middle East Neal has been pursued by guys with guns and has had near death experiences there (not yet written), and now he has a tie to Hiram Bingham in Peru. The Getting High in Peru series is due to Neal's past and work in Peru from 2013-2019. Neal's Beyond Indiana Jones series is based on his 40 years (1972-2012) of archaeological work in the Middle East; however, Neal is not a fictional character and has worked at Petra, "The Canyon of the Crescent Moon. Shalom/Salaam y Paz.
