Paula Statman

Paula Statman, M.S.S.W., founder of the KidWISE Institute, first earned international attention with the 1994 publication of On the Safe Side, (HarperPerennial). Also published in Spanish, Russian and Chinese, this book earned a Parents' Choice Honor and became a highly respected resource for both parents and professionals.

A family educator, psychotherapist and consultant, Paula has dedicated her life to promoting healthy families and safe kids. Over the past 25 years, she has written several books and produced video and audio materials about parenting topics such as child personal safety and stress-less parenting. In 2003, assisted by curriculum specialists and translators, Statman designed Out of Harm's Way, a large-scale child sexual abuse prevention and awareness program for three California Catholic dioceses, which will ultimately reach over a half million families.

An informative speaker, she frequently keynotes at national and state conferences and has spoken at over 400 community events sponsored by hospitals, churches, schools and civic groups. In 2004, she served as a national spokesperson for GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceuticals, appearing on television and radio to discuss changing trends in parenting. Paula is frequently quoted in the media. Her views and articles have appeared in respected publications such as Redbook, Parents, and USAToday.com. Regularly featured on broadcast media as a parenting expert, she has been a repeat guest on Oprah and the Today Show.
