Jane Wilson-Howarth

Dr Jane Wilson-Howarth's passion for wildlife started with creepy-crawlies and evolved into experiments in taxidermy with roadkill. Jane bagged a zoology degree in Plymouth before setting out overland to Nepal. That seeded a passion to work to improve the lot of the poor. After qualifying as a parasitologist (Oxford University Masters) and as a physician (BM Southampton) she spent 18 years working on various child survival projects in remote corners of Asia. During her 12 years in Nepal she helped set up aid to communities hit by disastrous flooding and mentored paramedics in remote mountain villages.

Her proudest professional achievement was being declared person non grata in the state of Baluchistan for talking about poo and ablutions.

She loves aquatic activities and a few years ago swam across a Norwegian fjord.

When in Cambridgeshire where she worked as a GP, she speaks at travel shows, schools and universities. She writes extensively on travel and health for British national newspapers (Independent, Guardian) and other national and international publications. She's written over 200 health features for various travel magazines and her travel health guides have sold in tens of thousands.

Jane’s "Snowfed Waters" is a heart-warming novel set in Nepal. She has also published three adventure stories for children set in Nepal and one in Madagascar and she's recorded these for audio listeners.
