Ray Sanchez

Business career – Sports writer then sports editor at the El Paso Herald-Post from 1950 to 1990. At various times he was High School Editor, Golf Editor, Racing Editor, and Bowling Editor before becoming the first Hispanic sports editor ever in El Paso.

After retiring from the Herald-Post, he wrote a column for the El Paso Times and now for El Paso Inc. He Has written and published seven books on sports and written for numerous national publications and covered significant events such as the Dallas Cowboys, Super Bowl, World Series, Kentucky Derby, and U.S. Open (golf).

Author or co-author of seven books on sports: "The gods of Racing," "Don Haskins: The Bear Facts," "Basketball's Biggest Upset," "El Paso's Greatest Sports Heroes," "Baseball: From Browns to Diablos," "The Miners: The History of Sports at University of El Paso" and "The Good, the Bad and the Funny of El Paso Sports History."

Consultant for the movie "Glory Road." Don Haskins said Ray Sanchez is responsible for the film.
