Patrick M. Hickey is a ninth dan black belt in karate who has more
than 40 years of experience as a competitor, instructor, coach,
referee and judge. He is also a certified black belt in judo, jujitsu
and kobudo. Hickey was a former AAU Karate Official, a nationally
rated referee and coach, and an internationally rated referee. He was
an officer for the United States national governing body for karate
from 1986 to 1994 and currently heads the USA Karate Senior Master’s
Caucus. Hickey spent time as a director of the United States Karate
Association Law Enforcement Division heading the group that certified
police defensive tactics instructors. In the early 1980’s Hickey was
one of the United States representatives to the First World Technical
Congress that set the standard for international karate competition.
Currently, Hickey is the president of the USA Karate Federation and
director of the International Kwanmukan and helps his wife, Pamela,
run the Hickey Karate Center in Stow, Ohio. They reared three boys,
Patrick, Thomas, and David Hickey. In addition to his avid interest in
the martial arts, he likes to play guitar, enjoys sailing and playing
on a soccer team and ballroom dancing.
