Over 50 years ago, a husband asked, “Patsy, if a husband tells his wife she ought to eat beans seven days a week…don’t you think she ought to eat beans…seven days a week?”

Patsy knew that he was trying to manipulate her into saying something to support his abuse. She had to stop him from using her, but how? She thought if she could answer him with scriptures that focused on what he was doing wrong; maybe that would work. It might even cause him to stop abusing his wife.

Married only a few years, Patsy had dismissed the few verses she knew about regarding women. They didn’t seem detailed enough to apply to modern marriages. Desperate to stop the husband from using her, she began searching the Bible for anything she could use on him…anything at all.

Soon she discovered the Bible contained some definite teachings about husbands and wives…things she wasn’t doing. As she began to practice the principles, she noticed an immediate improvement in her marriage. She got excited!

She told her friends, “Guess what I found in the Bible? And it works!” They went home and made changes. The results thrilled them. Sadly, her friend, whose husband goaded Patsy into studying, moved away and she never got to share what she learned with her.

But that manipulative question launched Patsy Rae Dawson's research, teaching, and writing for the Marriage: A Taste of Heaven series of Bible-based marriage books. Her readers describe her as gutsy, bold, and the most outspoken Christian woman on sex, referring to her frankness and not holding anything back.
