Over 50 years ago, a husband asked, “Patsy, if a husband tells his wife she ought to eat beans seven days a week…don’t you think she ought to eat beans…seven days a week?”
Patsy knew that he was trying to manipulate her into saying something to support his abuse. She had to stop him from using her, but how? She thought if she could answer him with scriptures that focused on what he was doing wrong; maybe that would work. It might even cause him to stop abusing his wife.
Married only a few years, Patsy had dismissed the few verses she knew about regarding women. They didn’t seem detailed enough to apply to modern marriages. Desperate to stop the husband from using her, she began searching the Bible for anything she could use on him…anything at all.
Soon she discovered the Bible contained some definite teachings about husbands and wives…things she wasn’t doing. As she began to practice the principles, she noticed an immediate improvement in her marriage. She got excited!
She told her friends, “Guess what I found in the Bible? And it works!” They went home and made changes. The results thrilled them. Sadly, her friend, whose husband goaded Patsy into studying, moved away and she never got to share what she learned with her.
But that manipulative question launched Patsy Rae Dawson's research, teaching, and writing for the Marriage: A Taste of Heaven series of Bible-based marriage books. Her readers describe her as gutsy, bold, and the most outspoken Christian woman on sex, referring to her frankness and not holding anything back.
Her insights into marriage and her mission have grown so that she now specializes in sexless marriages when all else fails. She also coaches husbands and wives who want to learn how to speak God's beautiful language of love that transcends spoken words.
Patsy is known as the lady who asks too many questions. Her dad liked to say, "As a child, when everyone else was laughing at my story, Patsy would ask, "Is that the truth?" Continuing to ask that question throughout her life, plus searching for answers for her students, has led Patsy on some amazing journeys and discoveries.
Patsy’s books amplify the four parts of true love to give a balanced view that changes lives and marriages:
1. Intellectual love comes from understanding and appreciating the differences in being created male and female.
2. Emotional love grows from taking the time to soulmate, which is a major theme in the Song of Solomon.
3. Sexual love delights in God’s design of equality in men’s and women’s desires and enjoyment of ecstasy.
4. Spiritual love honors God by learning how to speak his beautiful language of love that transcends human words.
Patsy's Embarrass the Alligator Newsletter showcases her keen understanding of core marital issues that she's developed over 47 years of searching for answers in God's word. Her ability to unlock the scriptures and challenge traditional views to impart hope makes her a sought after writer and coach.
