Gregg Smith

Gregg Smith is an award winning author and speaker on beer and brewing. He has been a featured lecturer at the Smithsonian, The Museum of America and the Sea, and the Culinary Institute of America. Frequently appearing on national and international radio and television, he is a sought after speaker who has hosted beer dinners at up-scale restaurants across the United States.

He has appeared on several beer related programs on the History and Discovery Channels. Other speaking engagements include the Great American Beer Festival, the Craft Brewers Conference, historical societies, Beer Camp, and at beer appreciation clubs around the country. Gregg was also a featured guest on the BBC, Armed Forces Radio and various radio stations throughout the US.

He has served as co-chair of the North American Guild of Beer Writers and as both a member of the board and Associate Director of the Beer Judge Certification Program. He holds the rank of Grand Master Beer Judge II and has judged since 1993 at the Great American Beer Festival and since 1998 at the World Beer Cup.

Gregg was Managing Editor of the "Beer & Tavern Chronicle", a national monthly beer periodical, Field Editor of the "Brew Review", and guest editor in "Yankee Brew News." His scores of articles have appeared in numerous publications throughout the United States.

Writing awards from the North American Guild of Beer Writers include: Twenty-Three "Quill and Tankards" for beer writing. He was Beer Writer of the Year 4 times. Two of those were by the NAGBW along with several runner-up acknowledgements. He also twice received the writing award for excellence from the American Brewerianna Association.

Mr. Smith serves as founding member and president of the North American Brewers Association, a federal 501.(c).3 which runs the non-profit Mountain Brewers Beer Fest. The festival celebrates its 23rd year in 2017 and has raised over 1.7 million dollars for charity and non-profit organizations.

He lives in Idaho Falls, Idaho with his wife Lisa (also a GABF and World Beer Cup Judge) and a Black Lab named Simba who constantly begs for a taste of beer.
