About the Author

Gerry Pratt, a lifelong reporter, grew up in the 1930s and 1940s in Vancouver, B.C. He attended school with those who were caught up in the jingoistic fever of World War II; he personally knew many Japanese who were the victims of the prejudice created by the war.

In the 1950s, Gerry moved to Portland, OR, where he worked as a reporter for the Oregonian newspaper. While working there, he covered the Irish Troubles extensively. He has traveled many times to Japan and Ireland on assignment. His career as a reporter also took him to the Soviet Union, to Vietnam for two tours, and to Israel where he covered the 1967 Israeli war.

In addition to his reporting for the Oregonian, Gerry was a contributor to the public radio program "All Things Considered," was the host and moderator for the television program "Town Hall," and was a columnist for the Community Press, a Portland newspaper. He is also the author of God is Blue - and other short stories.

Gerry Pratt now resides in Vancouver, WA, where he enjoys spending time with his family and sharing his stories.
