I always knew that writing would be a part of my life, an important way for me to express myself. My mother wrote poetry all her life, and real-life stories in which she substituted names with pseudonyms. My grandfather, a lifelong Navy guy, wrote his autobiography in 1950 and there were copies all over the house. Of course, being a full-time writer was impossible.
My latest book, Escape from the Lower East Side, was recently reviewed by Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3566158328
When I spent years investigating discrimination cases for the NJ Civil Rights Division in the 1970s I wrote books about discrimination. As a marketing executive, I wrote a book about taking a marketing approach to writing. Faced with a midlife crisis, I wrote a book of poems about my past. When I retired and moved to Turkey with my wife in 2010, I wrote a book about an Islamic Turkish woman. Back in the states, I researched my family, uncovered a great grandfather, and wrote a novel based on him.
Amazon facilitates authors like no other institution so now anyone can express themselves and find an audience. No more publishing house gatekeepers to keep you out! I encourage everyone to find their voice and contribute to the 'knowledge base' with their own stories. It's therapeutic and benefits others.
