Michael Olpin, PhD, is a professor of Health Promotion and the director and founder of the Stress Relief Center at Weber State University. For more than 35 years, he has studied, researched, and taught the science and practice of stress management, helping individuals and professionals reduce stress, improve clarity, and perform at their best.
He earned his PhD in Health Education from Southern Illinois University, his MS in Health Promotion, and his BS in Organizational Psychology from Brigham Young University. Over the course of his career, he has taught at universities across the United States, including West Virginia University, Virginia Tech, Concord University, Southern Illinois University, Brigham Young University, and Weber State University.
Mike’s teaching and research focus on stress management, mind-body health, meditation and mindfulness, wellness coaching, and peak performance. He has presented his work at conferences, workshops, and seminars nationwide and consults with athletes, sports teams, professionals, and community organizations seeking practical, research-based approaches to managing stress and sustaining high performance.
He is the author of Calm Under Pressure, an Amazon Bestseller in Business Health & Stress, and is currently working on the sixth edition of his widely adopted college textbook, Stress Management for Life: A Research-Based Experiential Approach, used by universities across the U.S. and Canada. His published works also include the five-book Stress Mastery series—Understanding Stress, Preventing Stress, Reducing Stress, Mindfulness, and Mastering Stress for Life—as well as Unwind!: 7 Principles for a Stress-Free Life, an Amazon #1 bestseller co-authored with Sam Bracken, and The World Is NOT a Stressful Place.
Through the years, Mike has worked with thousands of students, faculty, staff, and community members, helping them reduce stress, restore balance, and reach their full potential. His online and educational work continues to focus on making stress mastery practical, accessible, and effective for everyday life.
Outside of his professional work, Mike is a lifelong athlete and coach who enjoys running, biking, and just about any activity that involves throwing something—pickleball most of all. He is happily married to his wife, Shanyn, and is the proud father of four amazing children: Analise, Erica, Adam, and Ben.
